NEW APPOINTMENTS ANNOUNCED

TO MANITOBA HYDRO BOARD

Seven new appointments to the board of Manitoba Hydro were announced today by Finance Minister Greg Selinger, minister responsible for administration of the Manitoba Hydro Act.

"These new members bring a wide range of skills and knowledge to the board, while ensuring representation from a broad cross- section of the community," Selinger said. "Manitoba Hydro is a source of great pride for all Manitobans. I am confident that this board is well equipped to build on past achievements as it deals with the many challenges ahead."

The seven new members are:

  • Saul Cherniack, former finance minister and former chair of Manitoba Hydro
  • Phil Dorian, executive officer of the Swampy Cree Tribal Council and chair of the Tribal Council Investment Group of Manitoba
  • Ken Hildahl, a member of the Blue Cross board and director of operations for the Manitoba Government Employees Union
  • Gerard Jennissen, MLA for Flin Flon
  • Stan McKay, former moderator of the United Church of Canada, who has also taught and worked throughout Northern Manitoba
  • Mike Spence, mayor of Churchill, owner/operator of Watchee Lodge and a member of the York Factory First Nation

Remaining on the board are Gary Leach, Charles Curtis, Rod Beaudry and Maria den Oudsten.

Selinger also thanked George Campbell, Doug Harvey, Debra Jonasson-Young, John Puchniak and Ken MacMaster for their past service to the board.

Earlier today, Premier Gary Doer announced the appointment of Vic Schroeder, former minister of finance and energy and mines, as chair of the Manitoba Hydro board. Former chair John McCallum will act as a transition adviser to the new chair for an interim period.
