New Judge Appointed To Provincial Court in Brandon

John Harvey Combs has been appointed to Manitoba provincial court in Brandon effective immediately, Attorney General Gord Mackintosh announced today.

"With more than 26 years in practice, Mr. Combs brings a wealth of legal experience to the bench," said Mackintosh. "He has been a longtime resident of Brandon with a deep commitment to the community, which will serve him well in his new role."

The new judge's legal experience includes practise in numerous areas of the law. He received his law degree from the University of Manitoba and was called to the bar in 1977.

He began his career with Legal Aid Manitoba and has been a partner in the firm Hunt, Miller, Combs. He is a life bencher with the Law Society of Manitoba and has chaired a number of committees for the organization.

Combs has also been active in the community. He has served on the boards of the Keystone Centre and McKenzie Seeds.

Combs was selected from a list of candidates recommended by an independent judicial nominating committee. The committee was chaired by Manitoba provincial court Chief Judge Raymond E. Wyant and included three community representatives, representatives of the Law Society of Manitoba and the Manitoba branch of the Canadian Bar Association, and a provincial court judge.

A swearing in ceremony will be scheduled by the court.
