Warnings and Advisories

• A flood warning is in place for all points along the Carrot River due to high flows.  The ice pack is moving but water remains high.
• A flood warning remains for the Assiniboine River from the Shellmouth Dam to Brandon, due to high flows.
• A flood watch is in place for:
  • The Saskatchewan River at The Pas, due to high flows; and
  • Brereton Lake in the Whiteshell Provincial Park.
• A high water advisory is in place for:
  • all points along the Little Saskatchewan River, due to high flows.

The Pas and Northern Manitoba

• A flood warning is continued for all points on the Carrot River due to high flows.  The river is reported to be clear of ice.  The open water crest for the Carrot River is expected May 7 to 14 at 856.1 to 857.4 feet at the Bracken Dam.
• The Saskatchewan River at The Pas continues to see high flows.  Ice is reported to have moved well downstream of The Pas.  The open water crest at The Pas is expected May 7 to 14 at
  855.6 to 856.9 ft.
• The permanent flood protection works at Rall’s Island and temporary flood protection works at the Bracken Dam are above the forecast peaks.
• Yesterday’s ice affected crests were higher than the open water crests forecast to occur in the coming days.

Assiniboine River

• A flood warning is continued for the upper Assiniboine River from the Shellmouth Dam to Brandon.  There is some flooding of low-lying land near the river.
• The Little Saskatchewan River is under a high water advisory as run-off continues from the upper reaches of the watershed.
• The water level on the Shellmouth Reservoir has increased to 1,409.7 ft.; the summer target level is 1,402.5 ft. and the spillway is at 1,408.5 ft.
• Water is flowing over the spillway and these flows will increase or decrease as the reservoir level rises and falls.
• Inflows to the reservoir dropped by 380 cubic feet per second (cfs) and are approximately
  8,340 cfs today.  Outflows from the reservoir increased by 250 cfs and are at 6,020 cfs.  Outflows include 5,270 cfs of conduit flow and 750 cfs of spillway flow.
• As of this morning, flow on the Portage Diversion increased by 2,200 cfs to 6,260 cfs and flow on the Assiniboine River downstream of the diversion remained stable at 10,020 cfs.
• The operation plan for the Portage Diversion is to hold the flows on the lower Assiniboine River to approximately 10,000 cfs.

Parkland Region

• Dauphin Lake is at 856.7 ft. and is rising due to high inflows.
• This is above the desired level and is forecast to peak in mid-May at approximately 857 ft.
• The ice remains solid at this time, and ice and wind conditions continue to be monitored.

Eastern Region

• The flood watch is continued for Brereton Lake in the Whiteshell Provincial Park as the lake level is high but has stabilized.
• There is potential for flooding to develop on the lake itself and downstream from the lake.
• Conditions are being monitored regularly and the control structure on the lake is being operated to manage the risk of flooding.
• The water level at Nutimik Lake is at 902.7 ft. above sea level and is above the desirable water level range of 900 to 902 ft.

Spring Safety

People are reminded:

• to be watchful of local waterways as flood conditions can develop quickly and ice conditions may be unsafe,
• to avoid crossing areas with broken ice and surface water,
• not to drive or walk through fast-moving water, and
• to call 511 to check road conditions before travelling.
