Province Issues Wind Alert for South Basin of Lake Winnipeg, Areas Around Lake Manitoba
- Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation’s Hydrologic Forecast Centre reports the lake wind effect forecast for tomorrow suggests a strong wind warning for the South Basin of Lake Winnipeg and moderate to moderately high winds for south Lake Manitoba areas.
- In the South Basin of Lake Winnipeg, wind speed and direction could raise levels by as much as three to five feet with the highest setup occurring as a result of the strongest winds. In addition, these winds can result in significant wave action on shorelines.
- On Lake Manitoba, wind speed and direction could raise levels by as much as two to three ft. on the southeast shore and one to two ft. on the south shore.
- Property owners should take precautions.
