Flood Watch Issued for Dauphin Lake
– – –Recent Area Rainfall Will Raise Lake Levels Over Next Few Weeks
Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation’s Hydrologic Forecast Centre has issued a flood watch for Dauphin Lake. Over the next few weeks, levels are forecast to rise another foot with average weather conditions, but could rise by as much as three feet with wind effect and unfavourable weather conditions.
Current lake wind-eliminated level is about 858.2 feet above sea level (fasl). The summer target level is around 855 fasl.
Recent heavy rain and future weather conditions could result in a wind-eliminated peak of 858 to 859 fasl. The flood stage for Dauphin Lake is 858 fasl.
Property owners are advised to secure or remove valuables along shorelines as the potential for wind set-up and wave action will develop.
Recent heavy rain in the Dauphin and Duck Mountain areas has resulted in high run-off and increased flows along major tributaries such as the Valley and Turtle rivers which flow into Dauphin Lake.
Mossy River is the outlet for Dauphin Lake as it flows north to Lake Winnipegosis and into Lake Manitoba.
The Mossy River Dam, which is used to regulate levels on Dauphin Lake, continues to maintain maximum outflows.
