Province Issues Wind Alert for Lake Winnipeg, Areas of Lake Manitoba

Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation’s Hydrologic Forecast Centre reports the lake wind-effect forecast for tomorrow suggests a moderate-high wind warning for the South Basin of Lake Winnipeg and a moderate wind warning for south Lake Manitoba from Twin Lakes Beach to the Lynch’s Point area.

North winds are forecast to increase throughout the afternoon today.

Wind speed and direction could raise levels by as much as two to three feet along the south shore of Lake Winnipeg and between one to two feet on south Lake Manitoba with the highest set-up occurring near the end of a long-duration, high-wind event.  In addition, these winds can result in significant wave action on shorelines.

Property owners should take precautions.
