Province Issues Wind Alert for Lake Winnipeg, Areas of Lake Manitoba
Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation’s Hydrologic Forecasting and Water Management Centre reports the lake wind-effect forecast for tomorrow suggests a high wind warning for the South Basin of Lake Winnipeg and a moderate to moderately high wind warning for the south basin of Lake Manitoba.
North winds are forecast to increase throughout the day tomorrow and will continue increasing up to 65 km/hr Wednesday morning. Wind speed is forecast to diminish late Wednesday. Wind speed and direction could raise levels by as much as three to five feet along the south shore of Lake Winnipeg and between one and two ft. on the south shore of Lake Manitoba. In addition, these winds can result in significant wave action on shorelines.
Property owners are encouraged to take precautions.
