Manitoba Government Offers Condolences to Family, Friends, Co-workers of Corrections Officer Who Died in Today's Vehicle Accident

Justice Minister James Allum today offered condolences on behalf of the Manitoba government to the family of a female Manitoba Corrections officer who died in a single-vehicle accident this morning.  A male Manitoba Corrections officer was also injured in the crash.

“It’s with a great sadness that we learned of the death of this officer,” said Minister Allum.  “Our hearts and thoughts are with the family, friends and co-workers of the officer, who died in the line of duty.  Our thoughts are also with a second officer who was injured in the accident and is now in hospital.”

RCMP reported the accident happened about 9:45 a.m. on PTH 10, about 45 kilometres south of The Pas.  A Manitoba Corrections van transporting six prisoners to Dauphin from The Pas was travelling south on PTH 10 when the vehicle entered the east ditch, rolled and came to rest inside the tree line.

A female Manitoba Corrections officer from The Pas was pronounced deceased at the scene.  A male Manitoba Corrections officer from The Pas was taken to hospital in stable condition.  The six male prisoners suffered minor injuries and were transported to hospital as a precautionary measure.
