Province Issues Severe Wind Effect Alerts for South Basins of Lake Winnipeg, Lake Manitoba



Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation’s Hydrologic Forecasting Centre is issuing a severe wind warning for the South Basin of Lake Winnipeg and for the south basin of Lake Manitoba based on forecast high winds for tomorrow.

Northwest winds are forecast to increase throughout the day up to 50 to 65 km/h into Wednesday afternoon.

Wind speed and direction could raise levels by as much as five feet or greater along the south shore of Lake Winnipeg and on the south shore of Lake Manitoba.  In addition, these winds can result in significant wave action on shorelines.

Lake Manitoba is currently at 812.62 feet above sea level (FASL) while the South Basin of Lake Winnipeg was last measured at 714.46 FASL.

Property owners are advised to take precautions.
