Manitoba Celebrates Global Entrepreneurship Week

Premier Greg Selinger today thanked Manitoba’s entrepreneurs and small business owners for the skill and creativity they offer communities during Global Entrepreneurship Week, which runs until
Nov. 22.

“I want to congratulate the many local organizations and institutions who organized workshops and events this week to gather and encourage local entrepreneurs,” said Premier Selinger.  “This is an exciting community of creative risk takers who are driving innovation in Manitoba and that is why the 2015 throne speech includes a new Strategic Innovation Plan that will fuel hi-tech jobs and support local entrepreneurs.”

Events marking Global Entrepreneurship Week include Pitch Day by Innovate Manitoba; Game Changer:  Manitoba’s Idea Competition at the University of Manitoba; Aboriginal Youth Forum Day at the Aboriginal Chamber of Commerce; and the Manitoba Environment Industries Association Annual Conference.

“Small businesses are the backbone of our communities.  There are more than 90,000 small businesses across Manitoba active in solving local issues, pushing innovation and growing the local economy,” said Premier Selinger.  “These are some of the reason why we’ve supported small business by eliminating the business tax and supporting great organizations like Futurpreneur, Innovate Manitoba, StartUp Winnipeg, Eureka and the Manitoba Technology Accelerator.”

The premier also noted the Manitoba Innovation Growth Side Car fund is helping entrepreneurs move their ideas forward and more information about the fund can be found at: www.gov.mb.ca/jec/busdev/financial/sidecar/index.html
