Province Issues High Wind-induced Lake Level Warning for South Basins of Lake Manitoba and Lake Winnipeg

Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation’s Hydrologic Forecasting Centre reports that forecast high winds developing overnight Wednesday will produce temporary high wind-induced lake levels and waves on Lake Manitoba and Lake Winnipeg.

Sustained northwest winds are forecast to range up to 50 km/h starting overnight Wednesday and continuing until Friday.  High winds will set up south basin lake water and temporarily raise levels by as much as five feet or more, followed by significant wind-driven wave action.  Lake Manitoba and Lake Winnipeg wind-eliminated water levels are currently at 811.9 ft. and 713.7 ft. respectively.

Both lakes are within operating range.

Property owners are advised to take precautions.
