Provincial Ice-cutters Complete Work on Red River, Shift Focus on Icelandic, Brokenhead and Fisher Rivers

River Users Asked to Stay Clear of Equipment

Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation advises ice-cutting began yesterday on the Icelandic and Fisher rivers, and will begin tomorrow on the Brokenhead River to reduce potential ice-jam flooding.

River users are asked to observe warning signs and stay clear of the equipment as cutting machines weaken ice to help Amphibex breakers open channels.

The icebreaking and ice-cutting equipment is operated and maintained by North Red Waterway Maintenance Inc., a corporation formed by the rural municipalities of St. Andrews and St. Clements, and the City of Selkirk.
