Province Issues High Water Warning for Red Deer River Near Saskatchewan Boundary

Hydrologic Forecasting and Water Management of Manitoba Infrastructure has issued a high water warning for the Red Deer River following heavy rains in Saskatchewan.  The river, just north of the Porcupine Provincial Forest, flows from Saskatchewan into Manitoba.

Peak flows on the river reaching 2014-levels may develop, depending on further rainfall.  At this time, high river flows are not expected to last long and will not create major increases in the level of Red Deer Lake.

Precautions should be taken to remove boats and other property from the shoreline until the river returns to normal levels.

The province will continue to monitor the situation in western areas of Manitoba.  Based on current conditions, no widespread flooding is expected.  However, localized, intense rainfall could create overland flooding in some areas.
