Province Announces Appointment of New Provincial Court Judge
Justice Minister Heather Stefanson today announced the appointment of Todd Rambow to the provincial court in Thompson.
“Judge Rambow has made Manitoba’s north his home for nearly a decade and this experience, combined with his legal expertise, make him well-suited to serve the justice system in Thompson now and into the future,” said Stefanson. “His experiences in criminal defence, family law and most recently as a Crown attorney will help inform his decisions on matters that are important to all Manitobans.”
After receiving his law degree from the University of Manitoba in 1993, Rambow served as a law clerk in the Federal Court of Canada, then as an associate lawyer with private law firms in British Columbia. From 2003 to 2006, he practised in Swan River, then joined the province as a senior Crown attorney. He has served in that capacity in The Pas for the last 10 years. Rambow is a regular presenter at events held by the Northern Bar Association and also shares his expertise in presentations to law enforcement and within the community.
Rambow is an active volunteer in his community, assuming leadership and coaching roles with local minor hockey, basketball, volleyball and lacrosse teams. He is also an avid hunter, fisher and camper.
He was selected from a list of candidates recommended by an independent judicial nominating committee, chaired by Chief Judge Margaret Wiebe. This committee also included three community representatives, the Law Society of Manitoba, the Manitoba branch of the Canadian Bar Association and a provincial court judge. The appointment is effective immediately.
An official swearing-in ceremony will be scheduled as soon as possible.
