Temporary Fishing Closure for Dauphin Lake Ending

Manitoba Sustainable Development advises that temporary conservation measures on Dauphin Lake and its tributaries put in place April 27 will be lifted at 12:01 a.m. May 9, 2018.

The temporary conservation measures were implemented to protect walleye during this critical part of their life cycle for continued recovery efforts in Dauphin Lake.  Based on monitoring of the tributaries it has been determined that the majority of walleye have spawned in Dauphin Lake tributaries.

The temporary conservation measures were in addition to existing measures implemented over the past number of years including reductions in commercial harvest, reductions in daily catch limits of walleye for anglers and requiring all spawning-sized walleye to be released.

The province is committed to working with Treaty 2 First Nations, Métis communities, and other resource users of the fishery to ensure long-term sustainability.
