Province Seeking Options to Redevelop Housing Project in Flin Flon

A vacant, provincially owned property will be redeveloped to provide more housing options in Flin Flon, Families Minister Scott Fielding announced today.  The province has issued a request for expressions of interest (REOI) for options to be submitted for the province’s consideration.

“We are looking for unique and innovative ideas that reflect the needs of this community, maximize the benefit of this property and improve access to housing for all Manitobans,” said Fielding.  “This is a fresh start on a project that Flin Flon has been anticipating for some time now, so we expect there will be significant interest in this opportunity."

The REOI is open to any organization or company interested in redeveloping the site at 4 Hemlock Dr.  The government deferred previous redevelopment plans as part of a review into the value for money of several projects.

“Housing is integral to the well-being of communities across Manitoba and I’m glad Flin Flon will once again benefit from the 4 Hemlock Drive site,” said Mayor Cal Huntley, City of Flin Flon.  “This community’s greatest resource is its people and we are always looking for opportunities to help residents live, grow and thrive here.”

Manitoba Housing promotes community development and helps revitalize neighbourhoods by creating affordable housing and infrastructure to benefit Manitoba families.

The REOI is posted at www.gov.mb.ca/housing/progs/hemlock-reoi.html.  Submissions will be accepted until 2 p.m., Thursday, July 26.
