Province to Support the Endow Manitoba 24-Hour Giving Challenge
The Manitoba government will be providing up to $225,000 over three years to The Winnipeg Foundation to support provincial participation in the annual Endow Manitoba 24-Hour Giving Challenge, Municipal Relations Minister Jeff Wharton announced today.
“Manitoba is Canada’s most generous province and home to 55 community foundations, all of which are critical in supporting charitable work in their communities,” said Wharton. “The support that we are announcing today will allow us to build on our partnership with The Winnipeg Foundation, ensuring our community foundations can continue to make an impact in their communities for generations to come.”
Established in 2014, Endow Manitoba’s 24-Hour Giving Challenge is administered by The Winnipeg Foundation, providing incentives for rural community foundations to build their primary fund, generally called its undesignated fund. The goal of the challenge is to raise general awareness of community foundations as a way for Manitobans to support their community.
The province first participated in the Endow Manitoba 24-Hour Giving Challenge in 2017, which resulted in a 46 per cent increase in the number of private gifts and a 67 per cent increase in value of private gifts. Both The Winnipeg Foundation, and the Province of Manitoba provided $1 for each $5 raised from other sources, up to $2,000.
The support announced today will extend the province’s participation in the program until 2020 Wharton added.
