Appointments Made to Winnipeg Art Gallery Board



Two new members have been appointed to the Winnipeg Art Gallery (WAG) board of directors, Sport, Culture and Heritage Minister Cathy Cox announced today.

“The WAG has a worldwide reputation and we are pleased to see the appointment of excellent individuals to the board,” said Cox.  “This is an exciting time for the WAG, particularly with the creation of the Inuit Art Centre.  I know the board of directors is dedicated to ensuring the gallery remains a leader in the local, national and international cultural community.”

New appointments to the WAG board are:

  • Beverley De’Athe (Winnipeg) has worked in the bankruptcy and insolvency field since 1992.  She is a graduate of Brandon University and received her insolvency counsellor’s qualification certificate from the Canadian Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Professionals in 1997.  She is the former executive director of the Tiger Hills Arts Association and the Manitoba Association of Community Arts Councils, a past-president of the Manitoba Choral Association, the Central Manitoba Choral Association and the Manitoba Conservatory of Music and Arts.  De’Athe has also served as a volunteer board member with a variety of community non-profit organizations including the Misericordia Health Centre Foundation, where she currently chairs the Fund Development Committee; and
  • Gary Sarcida (Winnipeg) is a lawyer with Pullan Kammerloch Frohlinger.  He has appeared before all levels of court and is involved with the Phillipine Association of Manitoba Inc., the Southeastman Filipino Association of Manitoba Inc. and the Manitoba Filipino Business Council.  He has also served on the board of directors of Folkorama and the Folk Arts Council of Winnipeg.

The minister thanked outgoing board members for their service.
