Province Updating Board Membership for Pension Commission

A new member is being appointed and two other members are being reclassified on the Pension Commission board, Finance Minister Scott Fielding announced today.

“We know how important it is for Manitobans to have secure income and certainty in their retirement,” said Fielding.  “These board members will continue to work to the highest possible standard to ensure Manitoba’s pension system is stable and secure.”

The commission is an independent decision-making body that hears appeals of pension orders, reviews applications for surplus refunds under The Pension Benefits Act and advises the minister of finance on pension policy matters.

Tim McGorman, principal with Ellement Consulting Group, will move to chair from vice-chair.  McGorman brings more than 30 years experience providing actuarial and investment consulting for all types of pension and retirement programs.

Michelle Redekopp, partner with MLT Aikins, will move to vice-chair from board member.  Redekopp specializes in corporate and commercial law, and brings expertise in business acquisitions, dispositions, commercial real estate, finance and pension law.  She has also served on various boards including the Manitoba Chambers of Commerce small business committee and the Mennonite Brethren Collegiate Institute board of directors.

Craig Sheldon, the chief financial officer and executive vice-president of finance at Richardson International, will join the board as a member.  Sheldon has also served on various boards including the Victoria General Hospital Foundation, Richmond Kings Community Centre and Southwood Golf and Country Club.

The minister thanks all outgoing members for their time and service.
