U.S.-based Public Alerting Test Tomorrow May Reach Manitoba

Manitoba Infrastructure’s Emergency Measures Organization advises the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is expected to conduct a countrywide test of the American Integrated Public Alert and Warning System across the United States tomorrow.

This will be the first countrywide FEMA wireless emergency alert test in the United States.  The test will commence at 1:18 p.m. central time.  The test message will be a presidential alert and will read “This is a test of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System.  No action is needed.”

Although the test is not associated with Canada’s Alert Ready system and is targeted to American audiences, there is a possibility that Manitobans living near the U.S. border or travelling in the U.S. could receive the test message on mobile devices, TV and radio.
