Province Announces First Efficiency Manitoba CEO

Colleen Kuruluk has been appointed the first chief executive officer of Efficiency Manitoba, Crown Services Minister Colleen Mayer announced today.

“Manitoba is Canada’s green energy leader and our government’s commitment to protecting our climate includes strong conservation programs that Efficiency Manitoba will provide,” said Mayer.  “Under the new leadership of Ms. Kuruluk, Efficiency Manitoba is well-suited to move forward in its role in reducing energy costs for Manitobans and in delivering improved energy saving programs.”

Since 2007, Kuruluk was the manager of Power Smart Programs at Manitoba Hydro where she was responsible for a large and diverse team of engineers, technicians and marketing professionals.  It will continue to be responsible for new product research, code development, program design, and market strategies for energy-efficiency solutions for commercial, residential and industrial customers, until the transition to Efficiency Manitoba is complete.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in commerce from the University of Manitoba and is a graduate of the advanced program in management, leadership and strategy from the Asper School of Business.  She is currently a member of the Standing Committee on Energy Efficiency, which makes recommendations to the Canadian Commission on Building and Fire Codes on efficiency in residential and commercial buildings.

Efficiency Manitoba will provide a one-stop shop for consumers, businesses, institutions and industry looking for information and tips regarding resource efficiency ranging from smaller-scale home heating to industrial energy conservation projects.  The agency will work with the federal government and others to access incentives and rebates for consumers who want to make energy efficient choices.

The minister noted Kuruluk’s expected start date is Jan. 2, 2019.
