Appointments Made to Board of the Deposit Guarantee Corporation of Manitoba

One new member has been appointed to the board of the Deposit Guarantee Corporation of Manitoba (DGCM) and one member has been reappointed, Finance Minister Scott Fielding announced today.

“Manitobans can be confident in their dealings with credit unions and caisses populaires thanks to the diligent work of the corporation in co-operation with the financial institutions,” said Fielding.  “While banks are federally regulated, Manitoba’s credit unions and caisses populaires continue to flourish with the help of the corporation by focusing on sound business practices, governance, performance and risk management.”

The DGCM adds strength and stability as a proactive regulator that guarantees deposits in credit unions and caisses populaires.

Returning to the board of the corporation is Robert Jones of Wasagaming, former credit union CEO who brings 36 years experience working in various locations around Manitoba.  He joins new appointee Michael Swistun of East St. Paul, a certified financial advisor and managing director of FMI Capital Advisors, a leading management consulting and investment banking firm.  He previously served as director of acquisitions for the Exchange Income Corp.

These appointments are part of the Manitoba government’s efforts to continue to refresh the agencies, boards and commissions of the province, ensuring that Manitobans continue to be represented in these important positions by highly qualified and enthusiastic individuals, the minister said.

The minister thanked past and present members of the board for their service to the province.
