Joint Statement from Indigenous and Northern Relations Eileen Clarke and Rochelle Squires, Minister Responsible for Status of Women
Today marks Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls Honouring and Awareness Day in Manitoba, and we urge all Manitobans to show support for the families of women and girls stolen through violence by taking a moment to honour them on this day.
We remember the lives of the many women and girls, taken before their time. We remember their names, their stories, their laughter and their smiles. We also acknowledge the mothers and fathers, children, friends and loved ones left behind. We will never know the deep wounds you carry, but know that we stand with you today.
We recognize there is a lot of work ahead to address this national tragedy. We will stand together as a community and continue to work collaboratively to end this senseless violence.
While far too many women and girls are no longer with us, their stories and legacies will endure. Working together, we will ensure their stories are never silenced, their memories never fade and generations to come will never have to experience such profound injustices.
Manitoba’s Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls Honouring and Awareness Day coincides with the National Day of Action on Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls.
