Province Launches Manitoba Skills Strategy Survey
– – –Strategy to Ensure Manitobans Have the Skills, Talent and Knowledge for Thriving Economy: Eichler
The province has launched the Manitoba Skills survey as part of its strategy to ensure Manitobans have the right skills, talent and knowledge to build a thriving economy, Economic Development and Training Minister Ralph Eichler announced today.
“This strategy is designed to strengthen connections between industry, employers, apprenticeship, and education and training providers to improve job creation and retention,” said Eichler. “We are supporting the post-secondary education system to align student outcomes to Manitoba’s evolving labour market. The strategy is building on Manitoba’s strengths, and will provide opportunities for the existing workforce and develop future talent.”
The strategy is part of Manitoba’s Economic Growth Action Plan and directly responds to recommendations in the Growing Manitoba’s Economy report, which called for enhanced alignment between workforce training and post-secondary education programming with labour market needs, and increased opportunities for Indigenous peoples and newcomers. The province will meet with stakeholder groups in person and, through online engagement, consult with the public, employers, service delivery partners, and education and training stakeholders.
“Our government is working to create the conditions in Manitoba for growth and global competitiveness,” said Eichler. “We are confident that there will be the talent pool right here at home to fuel this growth. Individuals will thrive if given the chance to develop the skills that allow them to take advantage of these opportunities and help the province grow.”
The survey is available through the Manitoba Works website at www.manitoba.ca/mbskills. The deadline for feedback is Nov. 25.
