Appointments Made to Board of College of Dietitians of Manitoba

The Manitoba government is appointing two new members and reappointing two members to the board of directors for the College of Dietitians of Manitoba, Health, Seniors and Active Living Minister Cameron Friesen announced today.

“Dietitians provide much-needed expertise on how good food choices affect us all, by helping develop policy, conducting important research and supporting strong nutrition programs,” said Friesen.  “The work of the college is key to ensuring quality services that benefit all Manitobans, and I am pleased to be appointing these new and returning members.”

The new appointees include:
•    Janice Hamm (Selkirk), a public representative to the college’s council.  Prior to her retirement, Hamm was a co-ordinator of business/technology teacher education with Red River College, as well as an instructor for teacher education and a staff development volunteer instructor.  Hamm has a bachelor of education and a premaster in education from the University of Manitoba, a permanent professional teaching certificate from the Province of Manitoba and a diploma in teacher education from Red River College.
•    Helga Wheddon (Winnipeg), a public representative to the college’s roster of public representatives.  Wheddon is the general manager and on-farm programs auditor for Manitoba Turkey Producers.  She has certification in human resource management from Red River College and a bachelor of human ecology from the University of Manitoba.

The board members being reappointed include:
•    Bénédicte LeMaître (Winnipeg), a yoga instructor with GoodLife Fitness.  She was recently a student with the University of Manitoba where she obtained her master’s degree in philosophy and religious studies.
•    Karen Kumka (St. Andrews), the former director of St. Charles Day Nursery and Tot Stop Day Care. Kumka, who is retired, has more than 35 years of experience in child care, holds a bachelor of arts degree and a certificate in day-care management from the University of Manitoba.

The minister said these appointments are part of the Manitoba government’s efforts to continue to refresh the agencies, boards and commissions of the province, ensuring Manitobans continue to be represented by highly qualified and enthusiastic individuals.
