Province Makes Appointments to Apprenticeship and Certification Board
The Manitoba government is appointing a new chair, along with five new members and six reappointed members, to the Apprenticeship and Certification Board, Economic Development and Training Minister Ralph Eichler announced today.
“The board is an advisory body that makes important recommendations regarding the designation and regulation of trades, as well as approving apprenticeship training standards,” said Eichler. “Its essential work helps ensure a relevant, accessible and responsive apprenticeship and certification system in Manitoba.”
Eichler said the board consists of five members who represent the interests of employees in designated trades or occupations, five members who represent the interests of employers in designated trades or occupations, two members who represent the interests of the public, one member who is an apprentice (non-voting member), and the executive director (non-voting member).
Harvey Miller (Winnipeg) is a current board member, and will now move into the role of chair. Miller has served as president of the Merit Contractors Association of Manitoba from 2004 to 2015. He holds a master of psychology from the University of Victoria and a bachelor of arts from the University of Winnipeg.
New appointees to the board include:
• Ted Stark (East St. Paul) has been a boilermaker with Boilermakers Union Local 555 for the past 23 years. He holds a certificate of qualification in boilermaker trade and the welder trade.
• Ron Stacey (Winnipeg) was a certified electrician, a former apprenticeship training co-ordinator, and a former board member.
• Rick Guilbault (Winnipeg) is the president at RGC Plumbing and Mechanical Inc. He holds a certificate of qualification in plumbing, and he was an apprenticeship training co-ordinator, a plumbing instructor and is now an employer.
• Carol Paul (Winnipeg) is the executive director at the Manitoba Construction Sector Council. She holds a master’s degree in adult education from the University of Manitoba and is a certified essential skills profiler through Bow Valley College. She has instructed adult education courses at the University of Manitoba and the University of Winnipeg for the past 15 years.
• Alison Buhler (Winnipeg) is president at Buhler HVAC Ltd. and a second level sheet metal apprentice.
Reappointments to the board include:
• Bruce Sloane (Winnipeg);
• Brent Charron (Winnipeg);
• Steve Ducharme (Winnipeg);
• Karen Roe (Brandon); and
• Geoff Sine (Stony Mountain).
The minister thanked all outgoing members for their service.
Eichler also noted these appointments are part of the Manitoba government’s efforts to continue to refresh the agencies, boards and commissions of the province, ensuring that Manitobans continue to be represented in these important positions by highly qualified and enthusiastic individuals.
