Province to Invest $750,000 to Address Homelessness, Poverty-Reduction Initiatives through End Homelessness Winnipeg
The Manitoba government is committing $750,000 over three years to support the ongoing work of End Homelessness Winnipeg, Families Minister Heather Stefanson announced today.
“End Homelessness Winnipeg has become one of the city’s most important leaders for co-ordinating homelessness funds and initiatives in Winnipeg,” said Stefanson. “This funding will allow them to continue to lead a community of organizations and people who make a difference in the daily lives of people who have experienced homelessness.”
The minister said the three-year funding agreement will support the important work being led by End Homelessness Winnipeg including co-ordination and alignment of services for individuals experiencing homelessness and implementation of Winnipeg’s extreme cold-weather response strategy. Over the coming three years, End Homelessness Winnipeg will lead planning and implementation for a co-ordinated access system in Winnipeg, working with community partners across sectors to prevent and reduce homelessness in the city.
“This commitment from the Manitoba government arrives at a vital time, supporting End Homelessness Winnipeg’s work to align resources with local priorities,” said Lucille Bruce, chief executive officer, End Homelessness Winnipeg. “This alignment will enable the system transformation needed to move from managing homelessness with emergency responses to ending it through long-term, sustainable solutions.”
The Manitoba government funds End Homelessness Winnipeg to co-ordinate efforts to address homelessness. The organization also receives support from the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority, the City of Winnipeg and the United Way of Winnipeg.
“I want to thank End Homelessness Winnipeg for their leadership and hard work in supporting the efforts of many organizations dedicated to ending homelessness in the city,” said Stefanson. “This investment supports community-based leadership, while helping us achieve the direction set out in our poverty reduction strategy to help address the complex issues surrounding homelessness and poverty.”
