The Manitoba government has appointed six new members and one returning member to the Legal Aid Management Council, Justice Minister Cliff Cullen announced today.

“Access to legal aid is a cornerstone of our justice system, which makes the role of the management council and its responsibility for guidance and oversight of utmost importance,” said Cullen.  “I am pleased to appoint new and returning members to the council, who bring a breadth of expertise and knowledge to these responsibilities.”

The Legal Aid Management Council directs the work of Legal Aid Manitoba including financial management, operational and strategic policies.  Following these appointments, the council has seven members including the chairperson.

The new and returning members appointed are:
•    Allan Fineblit – chairperson;
•    Roberta Campbell;
•    Renwick DaCosta;
•    Brenda Gunn;
•    Daljit Kainth;
•    Dean Scaletta; and
•    Helga Van Iderstine.

The minister thanked the outgoing board members for their service.

These appointments support the Manitoba government’s efforts to continue to refresh the agencies, boards and commissions of our province, ensuring Manitobans continue to be represented in these important positions by highly qualified and enthusiastic individuals, Cullen noted.
