Province Reminds Manitobans to Consider Winter Driving Conditions
Manitoba Infrastructure reminds motorists to stay safe while travelling this holiday season and take caution on the roads.
• Drive according to conditions.
• Slow down in bad weather or on slippery roads. Whether on a highway or in a community, the posted speed limit is intended for ideal road and weather conditions.
• Be aware of snow-clearing and sanding equipment working on highways and roads. All maintenance equipment uses flashing blue warning lights.
• Stay well back of all equipment and do not attempt to pass a plow in operation from behind at any time.
• Slow down when passing approaching snowplows in operation.
• In low-visibility conditions, turn on headlights, rather than relying on daytime running lights, to help other drivers see approaching vehicles. Glowing tail lights will alert drivers approaching from behind.
• Travel with a winter emergency kit and additional blankets, water and emergency medications.
• Inform someone of planned routes and expected time of arrival.
Manitoba has 19,000 kilometres of provincial roads. Road conditions are available anytime by calling 511 (toll-free), online at www.manitoba511.ca/en/, on Twitter at www.twitter.com/MBGovRoads or by downloading the 511 Manitoba app.
