Province Announces Online Engagement for Improved Safety on PTH 52 in Mitchell

The Manitoba government is launching an online public engagement to receive input on safety improvements for Provincial Trunk Highway (PTH) 52 in Mitchell, Infrastructure Minister Ron Schuler announced today.
“Safety is our government’s number one priority and we have been studying ways to make Highway 52 safer through the community of Mitchell,” said Schuler. “By engaging the public, we will ensure we consider the safest and most practical options to enhance road safety along this section of road for pedestrians and motorists.”
Manitoba Infrastructure has been working with the Rural Municipality of Hanover to develop design options for the pedestrian corridors and intersection improvements. The options provide safe locations for pedestrian corridors and provide intersection improvements at Centre Street, Ash Street, Reichenbach Road, Broesky Road, Willow Street and at Rosedale Road. The province is now seeking public input on three options to improve traffic safety in the Local Urban District (LUD) of Mitchell:
- Option one – addition of traffic signals and a pedestrian crossing at Centre Street; the existing pedestrian crossing at Ash Street will remain. The Ash Street median would remain closed. This first option also includes the relocation and consolidation of Broesky, Reichenbach and Rosedale roads into one intersection.
- Option two – addition of traffic signals and a pedestrian crossing at Centre Street and the existing pedestrian crossing at Ash Street will be relocated to the west, between Willow and Ash streets. The Ash Street median would be re-opened. This second option also includes the relocation and consolidation of Broesky, Reichenbach and Rosedale roads into one intersection.
- Option three – addition of traffic signals and a pedestrian crossing at Centre Street. The existing pedestrian crossing at Ash Street will be relocated to the west between Willow and Ash streets. The Ash Street median would be re-opened. This third option also includes intersection improvements to both Reichenbach Road and Broesky Road at their existing locations.
