Province Launches Digital Ads to Reach Manitobans with Strong Public Health Messaging

Effective Messaging Focuses on Reducing Contacts: Pallister

As COVID-19 cases rise among Manitoban youth and young adults, the Manitoba government is running targeted ads to communicate the importance of protecting their wider circle from harm, Premier Brian Pallister announced today.

“We need to speak directly to Manitobans – the outcomes of getting COVID-19 may not be as serious for some of us, but could be devastating for our more vulnerable loved ones,” said Pallister. “These ads were developed based on focus group feedback to ensure we found the right way to get through to our young people.”

The province undertook focus group panels to gauge the demographics’ thoughts on COVID-19 and how best to reach them with public health messaging.

Based on this research, two ads were created that focus on the importance of following the COVID safety fundamentals to protect their loved ones like parents and grandparents who are more at risk, even if they feel that they and their peer group are less at risk of getting seriously ill.

“We all have a critical role to play in protecting each other. I believe many young people have been following the rules and doing their part,” said Pallister. “We hope all Manitobans respond to our call to focus on the fundamentals and protect all of us.”

The ads will be targeted to Manitoba young adults through digital and social media channels including Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook and TikTok over the next six weeks and can be viewed at: https://manitoba.ca/covid19/resources/protect-each-other.html
