Province Seeks Additional Input on Income Support Program for Individuals with Disabilities

The Manitoba government has launched an online survey as part of a second phase of consultations that will help guide eligibility criteria and design for a new income support program for people with severe and prolonged disabilities, Families Minister Rochelle Squires announced today.

“Our government is committed to support for Manitobans with disabilities,” said Squires. “This second consultation phase is an opportunity to provide additional feedback that will help us develop the program to improve the quality of life for individuals with severe and prolonged disabilities.”

The minister noted the province is also conducting virtual focus group consultations, the first of which are scheduled for Feb. 2 and Feb. 4. Hundreds of Manitobans shared their views online and in-person on the design of the new program in the first round of consultations, which ended early last year. This latest round of engagement will focus on ways to develop key components of the new disability income support program, particularly accessible and informed service navigation options.

Currently in Manitoba, individuals with disabilities who require income support are eligible for Employment and Income Assistance (EIA), whereas several other provinces offer separate programs tailored to the unique needs of that population.
