Emergency Preparedness Week Declared in Manitoba

The Manitoba government is encouraging all Manitobans to take the opportunity to learn about emergency preparedness to protect their families and communities during an emergency, Infrastructure Minister Ron Schuler, minister responsible for the Emergency Measures Organization, announced today as National Emergency Preparedness Week runs from May 2 to 8.
“Our government is committed to protecting Manitobans and our Emergency Measures Organization (EMO) works diligently to do just that,” said Schuler. “From disaster management to overall preparedness and response and recovery, the role of the department is to support areas of government in responding to large-scale emergencies. Through the leadership and co-ordination of EMO, we have complete confidence that our government is prepared to respond to any emergency to ensure the safety of all Manitobans.”
Emergency Preparedness Week (EP Week) is a national event supported by Public Safety Canada, working closely with provincial and territorial emergency management organizations, Indigenous organizations, non-governmental organizations and private sectors which support activities at the local level. This year, the theme is Emergency Preparedness: Be Ready for Anything. The intent of this theme is to encourage Canadians to take action to become better prepared for the range of emergencies they could face in their region.
“The pandemic has taught Manitobans to be ready for anything,” said Schuler. “Being informed and prepared to make good decisions that focus on the fundamentals, we can help lower the risk and help prevent the spread of COVID-19.”
