Statement from Health and Seniors Care Minister Heather Stefanson on National Nursing Week

As we mark National Nursing Week in Canada from May 10 to 16, I want to express my sincere gratitude to our nurses, who have been on the front lines of this pandemic since it first began. We know that this has been one of the most difficult years of your career.

Manitobans are grateful for the heroic efforts you have displayed, and the remarkable courage and perseverance you have shown in the face of incredible challenges.

Your jobs are not easy. You work long hours and face great physical and emotional demands, especially during COVID-19. Your leadership is key to the strength of our health-care system and your skills and expertise improve the quality of life for your patients and help keep them safe.

Thank you for your selflessness, commitment, and the compassion you have shown your fellow Manitobans during the pandemic, and for helping protect Manitobans in the largest vaccination campaign ever seen in our province’s history.

Thank you to our Indigenous nurses across Manitoba for the invaluable care and healing they provide their patients and the continued leadership they provide to their communities. It is greatly appreciated by myself, our government and the people of Manitoba.

The best way we can honour our nurses and help prevent the spread of COVID-19 is to adhere to the public health orders, socially distance, limit our contacts, and wear a mask.
