Manitoba Announces Over $245,000 in Heritage Grant Program Funding
The Manitoba government has approved more than $245,000 under the Heritage Grant Program that will support 46 groups, institutions and communities throughout the province offer unique and educational programming and services for Manitobans of all ages, Sport, Culture and Heritage Minister Cathy Cox announced today.
“We are pleased to support so many incredible local and grassroots organizations and communities to carry out projects that focus on bringing our province’s history to life in creative and engaging ways,” said Cox. “These projects help to preserve and promote the experiences and stories that have formed Manitoba into what it is today. I am proud that our government’s investment and continued community involvement make these important heritage projects possible and accessible.”
The Heritage Grant Program has two intakes, January and June. Projects from the first intake for this fiscal year have been approved across the province, with a wide variety of ideas proposed from heritage organizations and communities. Funding has been awarded to the various regions as follows:
• Winnipeg – $140,433;
• Central – $25,924;
• Eastman – $15,813;
• Interlake – $15,500;
• Parkland – $2,000;
• Westman – $39,004; and
• Other – $7,000.
Not-for-profit community organizations can apply for up to 50 per cent of their project’s total expenses. Funding ranges from around $1,000 to more than $10,000, depending on the size and scope of the heritage projects, which include interpretive signs, murals, bilingual exhibits, book research and writing, and digitization of photograph or sound recordings.
