Public health officials advise one new death in a person with COVID-19 is being reported today:
- a male in his 80s from the Winnipeg health region, linked to the delta (B.1.617.2) variant of concern.
The current five-day COVID-19 test positivity rate is 2.6 per cent provincially and 1.4 per cent in Winnipeg. As of 9:30 a.m. today, 106 new cases of the virus have been identified since Tuesday: 52 cases on Wednesday, Sept. 8; and 54 cases today.
Six cases have been removed due to data correction bringing the total number of lab-confirmed cases in Manitoba to 59,100.
There were 54 new cases identified in Manitoba today. Of these, 35 are in individuals who were not fully vaccinated. This includes:
- eight new cases, with seven not fully vaccinated, in the Interlake-Eastern health region;
- seven new cases, with four not fully vaccinated, in the Northern health region;
- two new cases, with two not fully vaccinated, in the Prairie Mountain Health region;
- 16 new cases, with 12 not fully vaccinated, in the Southern Health-Santé Sud health region; and
- 21 new cases, with 10 not fully vaccinated, in the Winnipeg health region.
Today’s data also shows:
- 456 active cases and 57,445 individuals who have recovered from COVID-19;
- 77 Manitobans hospitalized with COVID-19 including 35 people with active COVID-19 as well as 42 people who are no longer infectious;
- a total of 16 Manitoba patients receiving intensive care for COVID-19, including 10 people in intensive care units with active COVID-19 as well as 6 people who are no longer infectious but continue to require critical care;
- 2,386 laboratory tests were completed yesterday, bringing the total number of lab tests completed since early February 2020 to 943,304 and
- the total number of deaths in people with COVID-19 is 1,199.
The walk-in testing site at 1 Research Road (University of Manitoba) will be closed due to limited road access on Saturday, Sept. 11 and will reopen Sunday, Sept 12. Alternative testing locations can be found here https://manitoba.ca/covid19/testing/locations.html#list
As youth activities resume and activities like hockey tryouts get underway, individuals are reminded that they must follow public health orders and respect the volunteers at hockey rinks and community centres. Volunteers are doing their part to protect Manitobans by implementing and following the latest public health orders. The Manitoba government appreciates the partnership of our community organizations to help keep Manitobans safe and protected from COVID-19 and while we reopen our province.

The Manitoba government is also providing an update on ongoing enforcement efforts to protect Manitobans from the spread of COVID-19. A total of 56 warnings and three tickets were issued for the weeks of August 23 to September 5, including:
- one $1,296 ticket to individuals;
- one $5,000 ticket to businesses; and
- one $8,550 ticket to an individual for the Federal Quarantine Act.
