COVID-19 Bulletin #520



Public health officials advise two new deaths in people with COVID-19 are being reported today:

  • a male in his 40s from the Southern Health-Santé Sud health region (reported Thursday) linked to an unspecified variant of concern;
  • a female in her 50s from the Northern health region (reported Thursday) linked to an unspecified variant of concern. 

Today's five-day COVID-19 test positivity rate is 3.8 per cent provincially and 1.5 per cent in Winnipeg. As of 9:30 a.m. today, 186 new cases of the virus have been identified since Tuesday: 79 cases on Wed., Oct 13; 107 cases today. This includes:

  • 15 cases in the Interlake-Eastern health region;
  • 69 cases in the Northern health region;
  • 17 cases in the Prairie Mountain health region;
  • 48 cases in the Southern Health-Santé Sud health region; and
  • 37 cases in the Winnipeg health region.

Seven cases have been removed due to data correction, bringing the total number of lab-confirmed cases in Manitoba to 61,900.

There were 107 new cases identified in Manitoba today. Of these, 68 are in individuals who were not fully vaccinated. This includes:

  • eight new cases with five not fully vaccinated, in the Interlake-Eastern health region;
  • 45 new cases with 24 not fully vaccinated in the Northern health region;
  • 10 new cases with six not fully vaccinated in the Prairie Mountain health region;
  • 23 new cases with 20 not fully vaccinated in the Southern Health-Santé Sud health region; and
  • 21 new cases with 13 not fully vaccinated in the Winnipeg health region.

Today’s data also shows:

  • 962 active cases and 59,712 individuals who have recovered from COVID-19;
  • 93 Manitobans hospitalized with COVID-19 including 59 people with active COVID-19 as well as 34 people who are no longer infectious; 
  • a total of 17 Manitoba patients receiving intensive care for COVID-19 including 12 people in intensive care units with active COVID-19 as well as five people who are no longer infectious but continue to require critical care;
  • 2,573laboratory tests were completed yesterday, bringing the total number of lab tests completed since early February 2020 to 1,042,375; and
  • the total number of deaths in people with COVID-19 is 1,226. 

The outbreak has been declared over at Alonsa School in Alonsa.   

The Manitoba government is also providing an update on ongoing enforcement efforts to protect Manitobans from the spread of COVID-19. A total of 57 warnings and 31 tickets were issued for the week of October 4 - 10, including:

  • three $1,296 tickets to individuals for various offences;
  • 18 $298 tickets to individuals for failure to wear a mask in an indoor public place; and
  • 10 $5,000 tickets to businesses.
