Les Toupies Opens Larger Facility in St. Norbert For French-Speaking Families

The Manitoba government has provided more than $385,000 in funding for the expansion of Les Toupies Inc., a francophone child-care facility at École Noel-Ritchot in the St. Norbert area of Winnipeg, Families Minister Rochelle Squires, minister responsible for francophone affairs, announced today.

“Les Toupies Inc. offers infant, preschool and school-age day child-care programs in the French language, which is essential for francophone children and families,” said Squires. “This investment is a positive step in increasing the facility’s capacity to accommodate 72 new child-care spaces and to serve more French-speaking families in the St. Norbert area.”

Since 2018, École Noel-Ritchot, under the Franco-Manitoban School Division, has been undergoing a major renovation that includes the expanded child-care facility. The expansion is allowing Les Toupies Inc. to move to a new location in the school designed to support early learning and child-care programming.

The facility was previously licensed and funded for four infant, 16 preschool and 35 school-age spaces. With the expansion, the site will accommodate an additional 16 infants, 40 preschool children and 16 school-age children with a total of 127 spaces.

Les Toupies Inc. opened its expanded centre on Nov. 8, with seven child-care classrooms totalling 3,226 square feet including a kitchen, staff room, storage space and office space.

“We are so grateful to have this new space and to be able to accommodate families in need of daycare spaces in our francophone community,” said Marilyn Bosc, executive director, Les Toupies Inc. “We would like to thank the Manitoba government for providing the funding for our beautiful new centre.”
