High Wind Effect and Risk of Ice Pileup Warning Issued for South Shores of Lake Manitoba and Lake Winnipeg

Manitoba Infrastructure’s Hydrologic Forecast Centre advises high winds developing in the early hours of Sunday, Nov. 21 and lasting until evening hours may result in high wind effects and the risk of ice pileup along the south basin of Lake Manitoba and shorelines near Gimli on the west and Victoria Beach on the east side of Lake Winnipeg.

Forecast wind from the northwest gusting up to 80 km/h and wave action could raise levels by as much as five feet or more between Sunday morning and Sunday evening.

The gusting wind could create ice pileup as lakes are fully or partially ice covered. Property owners are advised to take precautions.
