Industrial Technology Centre is Transitioning to the Private Sector to Provide Services to Business Community
– – –Transition Expected to Enhance Service Delivery, Increase Jobs: Reyes
The Manitoba government is transitioning the Industrial Technology Centre (ITC) to a local business, T. Manson & Associates Ltd., effective Dec. 1, ensuring its specialized services continue to be offered to businesses in Manitoba and around the globe, Economic Development and Jobs Minister Jon Reyes announced today.
“After an extensive review of the Industrial Technology Centre and the services it provides, it was decided the centre should transition to the private sector,” said Reyes. “This will allow for a private business to deliver these services directly to businesses and is expected to enhance service delivery, expand business offerings to clients and eventually create new employment opportunities.”
The ITC was founded in 1979 and became a special operating agency of the provincial government in 1996. The centre provides services to assist businesses with product development and maintenance of their internal quality programs including calibration services, mechanical product and material testing, noise and vibration testing and analysis, and lottery ticket quality control for manufacturers in the province and further afield on a fee-for-service basis.
Tom Manson, president of T. Manson & Associates Ltd., said the ITC has developed into a unique resource for Manitoba industry.
“Right here in our backyard, there is a team of skilled professionals within the Industrial Technology Centre, offering world-class services to individuals and companies both local and abroad,” said Manson. “Being a small Manitoba-based business, T. Manson & Associates Ltd. is excited to have the opportunity to lead this organization into private ownership, building on the relationships and history the ITC has shared with the businesses that form the backbone of our economy.”
The minister noted the sale of the ITC also creates an opportunity to increase government efficiency.
“Focusing our government’s efforts on services that cannot be replicated or delivered by the private sector ensures we are making the best use of staff time and appropriately managing our budgets,” said Reyes. “The Industrial Technology Centre’s sale allows us to focus on the work that is needed to support Manitobans and build our economy.”
