Province Announces $194,000 Investment to Support 38 Heritage Projects

The Manitoba government is investing more than $194,000 through the Heritage Grant Program to support 38 projects throughout the province, Sport, Culture and Heritage Minister Andrew Smith announced today.

“Our government is proud to support effective, sustainable projects that identify, protect and interpret the province's human and natural heritage,” said Smith. “This funding allows community groups and not-for-profit organizations to complete these important initiatives, which honour and preserve Manitoba's history for future generations.”

The minister noted all 38 applications submitted to the January 2022 intake are receiving grants. The funding will support museum collection and exhibit projects, archives work, historical research, archeological investigations, website development, films, education initiatives, commemorations and interpretive projects. Of the five projects related to Indigenous history, three focus on reconciliation.

Funding has been awarded to the various regions as follows:

·       Winnipeg – $124,715;

·       Central – $6,000;

·       Eastman – $16,103;

·       Interlake – $7,085;

·       Norman – $17,000;

·       Parkland – $3,200; and
