Province Announces Byelection Set for June 7 in Thompson

Premier Heather Stefanson announced today that a byelection for the provincial constituency of Thompson will be held on Tuesday, June 7.

This is the fourth byelection called under legislation introduced in 2016 to ensure byelections to fill a vacancy in the legislature would be called within 180 days.

“This byelection will provide the constituents of Thompson an opportunity to select a representative to be a strong voice for their community and northern Manitoba in the Manitoba legislature,” said Stefanson.

The vacancy in Thompson follows the tragic passing of former MLA, Danielle Adams on December 9, 2021, the premier noted.

The necessary documents providing for the June 7 byelection have been signed and issued.

The chief electoral officer will be issuing an additional press release in the upcoming days that will indicate polling times, locations, and the dates and locations of advance polls.

There are currently 36 Progressive Conservatives, 17 New Democrats, three independent Liberals and one vacant seat in the Manitoba legislature.
