Statement from Labour, Consumer Protection and Government Services Minister Reg Helwer to Mark National Public Service Week

This week marks National Public Service Week, a time to celebrate public service excellence. As minister responsible for Manitoba’s Public Service Commission, I acknowledge the hard work and dedicated service of our public servants across the province.

Running from June 12 to 18, this annual week of recognition highlights the important work of public servants and promotes pride in Canada’s and Manitoba’s public service.

I have seen first-hand the critical importance of the work of the public service very recently in flood-fighting and relief efforts as well as throughout the COVID-19 pandemic as public servants, every day, deliver the services Manitobans rely on.

This year’s theme, Keeping Manitoba’s Public Service Connected, is particularly poignant as we re-learn the power of connection with and to our work, to our colleagues and to Manitobans after being apart because of the pandemic.

People enter professions as public servants because of a calling and connection to serve. I extend my sincere appreciation for the valuable contributions of each public servant to support Manitobans.

Our system of government is made up of elected officials and the non-partisan public service that ensures the ongoing operation of government and its services. We would not have the province we do without the hard work of public servants.

To every public servant in Manitoba, thank you for your commitment to public service.
