State of Local Emergency in Whiteshell Provincial Park Set to Expire

Manitoba Environment, Climate and Parks advises the state of local emergency in Whiteshell Provincial Park expires today.

The state of local emergency in the northern Whiteshell area was initially declared May 20.

Manitoba Parks thanks all park users for their patience, perseverance and ongoing co-operation this season. The Manitoba Parks team looks forward to welcoming more visitors throughout the summer to enjoy the province’s many beautiful and diverse parks, campgrounds, beaches and trails.

Manitoba Parks staff continue to closely monitor the evolving high water situation, assess conditions daily, and co-ordinate with multiple agencies in its preparedness and response.

Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure is continuing  repairs of Provincial Road (PR) 307 in the north Whiteshell area from Seven Sisters Falls to Rennie. Expect delays when travelling in the park, use caution and drive slowly when coming up to or passing work crews.

High water conditions continue to pose a risk to public safety in some areas. All park visitors are reminded to check and carefully monitor conditions prior to heading to provincial parks. Park visitors are reminded to obey road and trail closures and not attempt to drive through flooded areas or across damaged bridges.

Information on road closures and potential detours is available at www.manitoba511.ca.

Park visitors are reminded to check and monitor www.manitobaparks.com for updates.

Some provincial park campground and trail closures remain in effect in various parts of Manitoba. Future rainfall may continue to make wet conditions worse in several campgrounds across the province, which could result in additional partial campsite closures.

Campsite reservation holders will be contacted if they are affected by a campsite closure and can then request a full refund or move their reservation to another available location. Campers should not pre-emptively cancel reservations before being notified of a site closure, otherwise cancellation policies will apply.
