Manitoba Government Commissioning Functional Design Study for Infrastructure Improvements in Beausejour

BEAUSEJOUR—The Manitoba government will be commissioning a functional design study as the next step in its capital plan project for infrastructure improvements on Provincial Road (PR) 215 (Park Avenue) in Beausejour, Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Doyle Piwniuk announced here today.

“With the Town of Beausejour’s support of the project’s conceptual design, our department will continue working with town officials to move forward with the next stage of the project by commissioning a functional design study,” said Piwniuk. “We are looking forward to determining what infrastructure upgrades will best support the region’s needs.”

In the fall of 2022, the department will tender a request for proposals to pre-qualified engineering service providers to undertake a functional design study for this project, the minister noted. Through information gathering and engagement with the public and stakeholders, the study will develop and evaluate project options.

Some of the improvements to be considered as part of the study will include pavement surface and curb work, improved turning movements and intersection improvements at Provincial Trunk Highway (PTH) 44, PR 215 and PR 302.

“This project has been over 15 years in the making and started with previous councils,” said Mayor Ray Schirle, Town of Beausejour. “The Town of Beausejour is excited the Manitoba government is bringing this project to fruition.”

Once the functional design study is complete, a detailed design for the preferred option will then be developed, the minister said, adding construction is anticipated to start in 2025-26.

Piwniuk added that there are plans for an interim surface preservation treatment on the main lanes in Beausejour to improve the existing condition of the road.
