Statement from Municipal Relations Minister Eileen Clarke Welcoming all Recently Elected Municipal Officials

On behalf of the Manitoba government, I want to offer my congratulations and best wishes for continued success to all those elected to office in municipalities across the province. Also, thank you to all outgoing mayors, reeves and councillors for their past service.

I commend everyone who put their name forward and invested time, energy and commitment in pursuing public office in their communities.

Elected officials play important leadership roles by providing effective representation at the municipal level. They promote the well-being of their communities, which contributes to a stronger Manitoba.

I recently met with ministers responsible for local government in other provinces and territories, and I know we share many municipal priorities across the country. We are all addressing the global economic trend of inflation, sustainable land-use planning and infrastructure demands in the face of increasing impacts of climate change, and continuing to support growth and development as municipalities recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.

I look forward to meeting municipal officials at the Association of Manitoba Municipalities fall convention later this month and exploring new ways of collaboration to advance our collective priorities.
