A tender for the construction of a new kindergarten to Grade 8 school in Winnipeg’s Sage Creek neighbourhood has been issued, Education and Early Childhood Learning Minister Wayne Ewasko and Labour, Consumer Protection and Government Services Minister Reg Helwer announced today.

“French-language instruction is an essential part of the province’s education system and it is important that as many Manitoba students as possible have access to high-quality French-language education,” said Ewasko. “The new French-language school in Sage Creek will meet current enrolment needs and anticipated growth in the Sage Creek neighbourhood for Division scolaire franco-manitobaine (DSFM).”

Design work on the school, which will accommodate 450 students, began in April 2022.

“Capital projects strengthen communities and this new school in Sage Creek will increase the vitality of the neighbourhood and enable the Manitoba government to provide the education and child-care services that Sage Creek residents need,” said Helwer.

“It is with great joy that the DSFM welcomes the construction of a new school in the Sage Creek neighbourhood,” said Alain Laberge, superintendent, Division scolaire franco-manitobaine. “Providing families with a quality education in French is essential to the development of a community's culture and language.”

The school will be include 18 classrooms, a gymnasium and multi-purpose space, and a life skills, resource and guidance suite. The capacity includes two cohorts of kindergarten to Grade 8 classrooms plus a 74-space daycare program. The school is scheduled to open in September 2024.
