Manitoba Government Provincial Nominee Program Selects Additional Candidates to Fill Specific Labour Market Shortages
The Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) has issued letters to apply to the program to the latest round of candidates in an expression of interest (EOI) draw with a specific focus on addressing labour market gaps in Manitoba, Labour and Immigration Minister Jon Reyes announced today.
“Building on the success of last year’s nominations, the Manitoba government is pleased to announce the MPNP will begin targeted EOI draws to retain skilled newcomers who are presently addressing labour market needs in occupations with anticipated skill shortages,” said Reyes. “Our government appreciates the hard work and valuable contributions all skilled workers in Manitoba have made – and continue to make – to the economy, and particularly looks forward to nominating workers who have experience in the roles needed in our province.”
The MPNP receives a specific number of provincial nominee allocations from the federal government each year, which represent the number of applications the program can approve in a given year. In the EOI selection process, the highest-scoring candidates then receive an invitation to apply and submit a full application to the program. Candidates whose applications are approved are issued a nomination to apply for Canadian permanent residence.
At this time, the number of applicant profiles far exceeds the number of applicants Manitoba can nominate to apply for Canadian permanent residence, the minister noted.
The nominee program is conducting two EOI draws in this round: a targeted draw and the regular score-based draw. The targeted EOI draw is a result of the Immigration Advisory Council’s recommendation to give priority to industry sectors and occupations identified as being in greatest need of skilled labour based on federal and provincial data as well as input from the business community.
The targeted EOI draw will focus on candidates who are already working for Manitoba employers in occupations with the largest anticipated labour shortages based on the Workplace Education Manitoba’s Labour Market Information Program Annual Report 2022. Details are available at www.immigratemanitoba.com/notices/eoi-draw/. The Department of Labour and Immigration will continue to consult with key stakeholders to ensure the program is addressing the province’s labour market demands, the minister added.
Candidates for both EOI draws must create an online profile. The MPNP will review profiles and select qualified individuals to submit a full application. Candidates may be able to improve scores by completing or updating language test results, completing additional work experience or completing additional education.
“I encourage interested applicants to keep their profiles up to date in order to be considered in future MPNP selection processes,” said Reyes. “I see the positive effect that newcomers have on our economy and our province as a whole, and our government looks forward to providing opportunities for many skilled workers in Manitoba to apply for Canadian permanent residence.”
