Manitoba Government Announces Request for Proposals for Provincewide Kindergarten to Grade 12 Student Information System
The Manitoba government is requesting proposals for an integrated provincial Student Information System (SIS) that will create one modern information technology platform to manage student data along with other education information for kindergarten to Grade 12 schools across Manitoba, Education and Early Childhood Learning Minister Wayne Ewasko announced today.
“Having a provincial student information system will support the collection, analysis and reporting of quality data that accurately reflects Manitoba’s education system and helps to shape future decisions,” said Ewasko. “A consolidated system will help improve collaboration and support evidence-based local and provincial decision-making while providing equitable access and support to all school divisions no matter the size or location.”
Currently, student information and other education information are held in 37 school division-managed K-12 School Information Systems and in the department’s Education Information System. This system will bring Manitoba in line with other provinces and territories.
There have been significant calls for a Student Information System that responds to local and provincial needs, the minister noted. A provincial system was recommended by the Manitoba Commission on Kindergarten to Grade 12 Education and is included as part of Manitoba’s K to 12 Education Action Plan. The SIS also responds to recommendations from the Manitoba Advocate for Children and Youth, and the Auditor General of Manitoba.
“Pembina Trails School Division is looking forward to this opportunity of working with other Manitoba school divisions and Manitoba Education and Early Childhood Learning to move to a student information system that is consistent throughout the province and allows for the collection of data that can inform quality, evidence-based decisions,” said Lisa Boles, superintendent, Pembina Trails School Division.
The Manitoba government will continue to engage with school divisions to incorporate their requirements into the new system to ensure it supports their needs and implementation will be phased in over a period of time, the minister added.
