Manitoba Government Appoints Two New Judges to Provincial Court in Winnipeg

The Manitoba government has appointed David Ireland and Mark Kantor as judges of the provincial court of Manitoba in Winnipeg, Premier Heather Stefanson and Justice Minister Kelvin Goertzen announced today.

“These two individuals have displayed remarkable competence and unwavering dedication to the legal profession and I am pleased to appoint them as judges,” said Stefanson. “I have confidence that they will be valuable additions to the provincial court of Manitoba.

Ireland was called to the bar in 2011 and has worked as a law professor at the University of Manitoba with expertise in criminal law and has eleven years of litigation experience as both a Crown and defence attorney.

Kantor was called to the bar in 1997, working for over 10 years as a defence counsel before joining Manitoba Prosecution Service in 2007.

“The Manitoba government and the public rely on judges for their integrity and impartiality, and trust they will deliver fair, learned decisions,” said Goertzen. “These qualities are essential for maintaining the public’s confidence in the courts and Judge Ireland and Judge Kantor will serve Manitoba’s justice system well.”

The minister thanked recently retired judges Timothy Killeen and Robert Heinrichs for their service to justice in Manitoba over their distinguished careers.
